The value of organizing a school wide Speech Day
Limited Capacity seats available

The workshop will discuss the value of a school wide Speech Day incorporating the more traditional persuasive and after-dinner speeches alongside newer forms of communication such as TED talks and slam poetry. This student centred approach allows for considerable choice in a wide range of spoken forms and builds a collaborative culture among faculty & students. Participants will take away materials, primarily scoring rubrics and a suggested plan of how to organize the day, as well as an understanding of the educational value and personal growth that students can achieve as a result of this activity.

ISABC Public Square #StudentVoice
Limited Capacity seats available

This session is a follow-up on last year's successful inclusion of students as critical partners in our collaborative conversations on 21C teaching, learning and community engagement. The core participants for this session will be student leaders drawn from ISABC schools with the support of the Service Learning & Student Engagement Educators (SEED) group. Students are challenged to develop a preliminary action plan on how to build stronger community and sustainable connections amongst ISABC schools, particularly in the realm of community engagement and service. The goal is to leave the forum with a student action-plan across schools that goes beyond last year's foundations. This plan will be presented to SEED members and others who are interested at a 'working lunch' that day from 12.40-1.30pm.

The session coordinated by ISABC school representatives Antony Wilson (Mulgrave School), Carrie Hughes-Grant (Meadowridge), Daryl Weaver (Southridge) and Rick Campanella (Stratford Hall) and others. We hope this developing ISABC #studentvoice forum will shape our 'other' conversations on what matters in our schools and beyond.

Portfolios in the second-language classroom
Limited Capacity seats available

This session will be about the use of portfolios in the second-language classroom. I am conducting a research at the moment about this theme and would love to present the different steps leading to implementing portfolios in the classroom, what your students can do with it and how it brings invaluable information to the teacher and to the students about their progress and perception of a second language. I would also be happy to dedicate some time to a discussion amongst the participants to hear about what interests them in portfolios .
