English language skills are changing! Memorization, reading for understanding and written analysis are traditional measures of concepts in the English classroom. While these skills are still important, they have become less relevant with the internet and our students' abilities to access information at their fingertips. How do we engage our students in meaningful discussions, activities and writing exercises in the 21st century?

This workshop will introduce key concepts around using inquiry in the English classroom, provide specific strategies and lesson ideas, and examine student samples and reflections. Main focus areas include: higher-level Bloom's taxonomy (synthesis and evaluation) and representing understanding in a variety of ways (creativity, multiple literacies and giving students choice).
