Roundtable discussion. Visual art teachers have always struggled developing assessment that values the individual, while not hindering growth in that individual. Assessment in school measures an individual against the group, but limits, or fails to champion the personal journey inherit in artistic creation. Assigning numbers or grades to the student, colours or hinders their willingness to engagement in deeply personal ways. Art teachers will have the opportunity to share their assessment methods and discuss with colleagues their own reflections of this issue.
