Participants should gain an understanding of how to use the drag and drop programming IDEs to teach programming and problem-solving at the grade 8 and 9 level (and maybe grade 10). This session will use the GameMaker IDE but participants will be encouraged to look at other IDEs such as Scratch or Alice. Session materials will be available to participants.

I have been teaching Computer Science from grade 8 to the Advanced Placement Course for 17 years at St. Georges. My focus on teaching programming has moved from teaching a language to teaching algorithmic thinking.
