Sketchnoting: Doodling with a Purpose

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Sketchnoting is a visual form of note-taking, drawn in real time, using an organic mix of text, graphic elements and illustrations. Its non-linear, highly personalized format allows sketch-noters to arrange ideas on a page in ways that make sense to them.

Sketchnoting requires only basic drawing skills--it is fundamentally about processing information. Typically, notetaking is a passive activity with students merely recording what is presented to them. Afterwards, and only if they are diligent, they will review and process their notes. Sketchnoting inverts this process. All the high level thinking--conceptualizing, analysing, and synthesizing--happens before anything goes down on paper. This creates a much higher level of student engagement.

In this hands on workshop, participants will learn the essentials of sketchnoting--page layout and how to draw the basic elements of text, graphics and illustrations--using simple techniques that will get you capturing data visually, whatever your artistic talents. You will also learn how to build sketchnoting into the everyday practice of you and your students.
